Chad Boughner pitched eight strong innings and the Lions backed him up with 10 runs as the University of North Alabama completed a three-game sweep of West Georgia with a 10-1 win Sunday.
Boughner, 6-1, allowed just four hits and one solo home run over his eight innings on the mound and the Lions ripped 13 hits off three West Georgia pitchers and outscored the Wolves 26-5 over the three-game series. UNA is now 25-9 overall and 9-4 in Gulf South Conference play. The Wolves are 9-22 and 1-10.
North Alabama scored a run in the first inning, then added four in the second, one in the sixth and four in the eighth for a 10-0 lead. West Georgia held off the game being called due to the 10-run rule when the Wolves got a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth.
In the first inning Michael Schmidt walked, Jake Sloan walked and J.P. LaMunyon followed with an RBI single. UNA got four more runs in the second inning on just one hit. Dale Ricketts reached on an error , Nick McGregor reached on a fielder's choice and Schmidt walked. Blake Stroth walked to force in a run and Josh Cyr was hit-by-pitch to force in another run. Sloan reached on a fielder's choice and drove in a run and a LMunyon RBI single made it 5-0.
In the sixth, Josh Cyr doubled and scored on a Sloan RBI single. In the eighth Schmidt doubled and Stroth followed with a single. Cyr has hit-by-pitch to load the bases. LaMunyon had an RBI single and Jared Mothershed drove in two runs with a double. Ricketts drove in the final run with an RBI single.
