FLORENCE -- A trio of University of North Alabama pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout Tuesday of Freed-Hardeman as the UNA Lions picked up a 10-0 win in eight innings at Mike Lane Field.
UNA, now 22-9, led from the first inning on and finally ended the game due to the 10-run rule with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Freed-Hardeman falls to 15-19 with the loss.
North Alabama scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the second, three in the fourth, one in the seventh and one in the eighth. The Lions held a 13-2 hit advantage over Freed-Hardeman.
UNA starter Chad Boughner (5-1) got the win, pitching three and 2/3 hitless innings. He walked three and struckout six. Scott Fleming pitched one and a third innings, allowing one hit. Andrew Hillis pitched the final three innings, allowing one hit, walking two and striking out five.
Blake Stroth led UNA's offensive attack, going four-for-five with three runs scored and three runs driven in. Josh Cyr and Jared Mothershed also had two hits each for the Lions.
UNA returns to Gulf South Conference play Saturday and Sunday at West Georgia.
