My Take - Mother Jailed For Children's Absences

A Huntsville woman was sentenced to 72 hours in jail and six months probation because her three children missed a combined 103 days of school. It's the second time this school year that Huntsville City Schools have had a parent arrested for violation of parental responsibilities. This story generated a lot of buzz on our website and Facebook pages, with several people saying they didn't think it was fair that the parent was punished for the actions of her children. Those who felt this way argued that the children should be held responsible for their actions instead. Most certainly, the children should be punished as well, but in the end it is the responsibility of the parent to make sure their children—especially those under the age of 18—obey the law. Modern medicine has made birth control easy to get and easy to use. If you're going to make the choice to have children, you must accept the responsibility that comes with it. I'm Vanessa Oubre and that's my take. What's yours?
