STEPHENVILLE, Texas. -- After finishing third in the Gulf South Conference in scoring and first on the team, Alabama-Huntsville freshman guard Jasmine Hammon (Muscle Shoals) has become the first Lady Charger to earn honorable mention honors as a member of the 2011 NCAA Division II State Farm Coaches' All-America team announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
The only freshman among the 40 honorees selected by a votes of the WBCA selection committe, the newcomer was stellar in her rookie season for the Lady Chargers garnering GSC East Division Freshman of the Year honors along with first-team All-GSC laurels.
"I am incredibly proud of Jasmine, and this much-deserved All-America recognition" remarked UAH head coach Roy Heintz. "She is a gifted athlete that works very hard daily to be the best she can be as a basketball player, and in the classroom. I am thankful that the selection committee recognized her for her outstanding season. She exemplifies the excellence that we are striving for in our Lady Charger basketball program."
Hammon was joined by GSC foes Natalia Santos (Arkansas Tech) and Bug Cooper (Delta State) as honorable mention selections. West Alabama's Mystee Dale and Delta State's Veronica Walker were each first-team All-America selections.
