FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) - Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan's DUI trial will not stay in Lauderdale County.
A judge approved a change of venue motion for Logan at a motions hearing Thursday. After the judge accepted the motion, he gave the attorneys three weeks to come back with information on other places around the state where the trial could take place.
Along with changing the venue, the court also set a tentative trial date of June 27th. Both sides expect the trial to last three to four days.
An additional hearing is set for May 31st to tie up any loose ends that remain in the case.
Logan is accused of driving drunk in Florence in December of 2009. Witnesses say his vehicle ended up in his neighbor's yard after hitting a mailbox and another vehicle.
Investigators say Logan's blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit hours after the arrest.
A Florence city judge found him guilty of DUI and sentenced him to 90 days in jail, suspended his driver's license for two years and fined him $600, but the chief appealed the ruling.
The judge told the courtroom he would review Logan's arrest video before he ruled on several other motions in the case.
Those decisions are expected during the May 31st hearing.
