The video and images coming out of Japan paint a horrific picture of devastation. The earthquake and tsunami have washed entire towns away and when the final death toll is counted, it will almost certainly be monumental. Besides being displaced by these natural disasters, thousands have been forced into shelters out of fear of radiation coming from the country's crippled nuclear power plants. People all across America and right here in the Tennessee Valley are looking for ways to help. Unfortunately, others are looking to cash in on this tragedy by posing as charitable organizations trying to cash in on your generosity. The Better Business Bureau advises you to only give money to reputable organizations. If approached by an organization you are not familiar with, ask them for more information, including a list of their board members. If they refuse to answer your questions, don't give them your money. For a list of local charities who are trying to help the people of Japan, go to the My Take section of WAFF.com. I'm Vanessa Oubre and that's my take. What's yours?
