Decatur to Host Inaugural Alabama High School Fishing Championship

Decatur, Ala. – The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW Outdoors, recently announced the city of Decatur has been selected for the inaugural Student Angler Federation Alabama High School Fishing State Championship, April 17, 2011 on Wheeler Lake. The event is a two-person team format of students in grades 9-12, paired with a "coach" of their choice who will provide the boat they compete in.

The winning team advances to an FLW Outdoors/TBF High School Fishing Regional Championship held in conjunction with a National Guard FLW College Fishing Regional Championship hosted on a college campus this fall, where an invitation to the FLW Outdoors/TBF High School Fishing National Championship, and a chance to win a $5000 scholarship, is on the line. All state championship contestants automatically qualify to fish in the 2011 High School Fishing World Finals July 20-23 in Russellville, Ark.

This will be TBF Student Angler Federation's first appearance in Alabama. State championships are currently held in Florida, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Utah, and Kansas.

Entry fee for the state championship is $25 per angler and includes full TBF and FLW Outdoors membership benefits. Current Student Angler Federation members fish for free.
