HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Huntsville police say they've caught the man responsible for the city's first murder of the year.

Authorities arrested 22-year-old Joshua Dewayne Conerly of Huntsville for the murder of 20-year-old Timothy Lanier.

Police say Conerly shot Lanier on February 26th at 235 Victory Lane. Lanier was in the hospital ever since, and died Saturday from his injuries. Police initially had assault warrants out for Conerly's arrest, but when the victim died, it was changed to murder.

Police still have not released how the two men knew each other.

Huntsville Police and U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Conerly Wednesday at a Huntsville motel. He was charged with murder and booked into the Madison County Metro Jail on a $75,000 bond.
