GERALDINE, AL (WAFF) - A robbery in a DeKalb County Church parking lot ended with one man suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators said 70-year-old Pete Batey was shot in the chest about 6:00 Saturday morning outside Macedonia Baptist Church in Geraldine.

Police say Batey was approached by a woman at a gas station who asked him for a ride.

Police say they pulled over in the church parking lot and that's where Batey was shot.  The women then stole his red Chevy truck.

Batey managed to make it to a neighbor's house to get help. Saturday night he was listed in critical condition at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

37-year-old Patty Elaine Westbrook has been arrested for that robbery and shooting.  Guntersville police took her into custody after she was allegedly shoplifting from store. She was taken back to DeKalb County and charged with attempted murder.

Authorities are questioning other persons of interest in this case and more arrests could be made..
