Birmingham airport reopens after evacuation

BIRMINGHAM,AL (WBRC) - The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport has reopened after a suspicious package was found earlier this afternoon.

A spokesperson with the airport said the package has been secured and operations returned to normal.

The airport was evacuated around 4pm after a suspicious package was found inside a car parked in front of the terminal on the upper level.

Birmingham Police say they were called by a valet parker after the valet was asked by a passenger to move a package into the car's glove compartment. Police became suspicious when they looked at the package.

The contents of the package are not known at this time.
