HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - People who live at the Renaissance Apartments were shocked to learn that investigators made one of the biggest heroin busts in Huntsville.

Detectives found nearly 100 grams of heroin, two stolen guns, and four thousand dollars in cash. Investigators with Madison-Morgan County Strategic Counter Drug Team rarely find heroin to be a problem here in North Alabama.

The last heroin arrests was more than a year ago.

Jay Byham with the Alabama Pain Center Drug Recovery counsels addicts on a daily basis, but most of his patients are not heroin users.

"I think it would be a little unusual for Huntsville to see an increase of heroin," Byham said.

The more popular drugs like marijuana, cocaine, and meth are more accessible. These drugs remain at the top of the lists from a study done in 2008 by the Drug Enforcement Agency.
