HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- The U.S. Space and Rocket center in Huntsville is the number one tourist attraction in Alabama.
It's a place where you can learn about the first ventures into space and America's space program. Besides the space exhibits, there's also other attractions.
"We've begun hiring in or contracting with the traveling exhibits. The first one we had was Star Wars. We had the Chronicles of Narnia...the second one. It closed yesterday. Coming up next is one that has to do with forensic science," said Media Relations Manager Al Whitaker.
The center offers something for the entire family.
"The trend among all museums these days is to go to interactive and hands on exhibits," Whitaker added.
He says that grabs their attention and focuses them toward Math and Science.
Whitaker said one of his favorite exhibits is the Apollo 16 Codman Module that carried three astronauts to the moon. He said they are in the process of constructing an exhibit around it and will have a ribbon cutting later this winter.
"It's really cool to see what they have here. We just wanted to stop by and get a feel for what they do...day in and day out when they go into space," said Chris Hamilton, who's visiting from Pennsylvania with his family. "It's amazing to see the time and effort put into this."
