White Christmas covers North Alabama

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Many people woke up to a white Christmas Saturday.  The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson and Cullman counties in Alabama and Moore, Lincoln and Franklin counties in Tennessee until 6:00 p.m.

It's a rare White Christmas with accumulating snow is across the Tennessee Valley. WAFF 48 Storm Team Meteorologist Jeff Castle says we could see 1 to3 inches on the ground.

The EMA is out on the roads at 8:00 a.m. to find out road conditions. Public Works in Huntsville City and Madison County are salting the roads. There are a few roads closed as of 8:30a.m.


All elevated areas of I-565. Access roads blocked.

Jordan Lane/Governors Drive exit from Interstate 565.

Kelly Spring Road, just west of Hwy 53.

Keel and Monte Sano Mountains are closed.
Beeson Gap Rd. and Fort Payne Gap Rd. are closed.
All roads in the Harvest, Toney, and Monrovia area of northwestern Madison County are closed, except for emergency travel.

Chapman Mountain has reopened, but drivers are being redirected to Hwy 72.

There are also flights to and from Atlanta that have been canceled by Delta.
