Stephen Glasier: Army Commendation Medal with Valor and the Purple Heart
Stephen Glasier was born in California and entered service from Huntsville, Alabama. He is currently a student at Calhoun College and he likes to play golf and read.
Steve was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor for his actions on 8 April 2003 while serving as a personal security team leader. Steve's award is for saving the life of the then Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division, Major General David H. Petraeus.
On that date, his unit came under attack in a vicious surprise ambush while trying to shift between two blocking battalions who were involved in two separate brigade level battles in the early days of the Iraq invasion. Steve immediately maneuvered his HUMVEE as a shield between the ambushers and the Commanding General and led his team in repulsing the attack and destroying all of the enemy forces. The signature that appears on his Army Commendation Award is that of David H. Petraeus, the man he saved.
