MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of North Alabama women's soccer team built a 3-0 first half lead and went on to a school-record 12th straight win with a 3-1 decision over Montevallo.
UNA, now 13-2 overall, broke the previous mark of 11 straight wins set by the 2009 Lions. With the loss, Montevallo falls to 4-9-2.
Chloe Roberts scored the first goal of the match just 1:22 into the first period. It was her 23rd goal of the season and came off an assist from Jo Chubb.
Julia Osmond scored UNA's second goal at the 37:01 mark of the first half unassisted to give the Lions a 2-0 advantage. It was her fourth goal of the season.
Jennifer Osmond then scored her ninth goal of the year at 42:21 of the first half. Nikki Brown assisted on the goal for her 14th assist of the season.
Montevallo scored its lone goal at the 48:17 mark of the second half to make the final tally 3-1.
UNA out-shot Montevallo 13-5.
Prior to Montevallo's goal, North Alabama goalkeeper Alex McLay had recorded 434:18 consecutive scoreless minutes in goal, dating back to the Alabama-Huntsville match on October 1. She missed breaking her own record for consecutive scoreless minutes in a season by 22 seconds. She had a period of 434:30 without allowing a goal last season.
UNA plays West Florida Friday night in a match between the Gulf South Conference's only two unbeaten teams in league play. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the UNA Soccer Field.
