Decatur, Ala. – The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) will hold its Cross Country State Championship at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park on November 13, 2010. Hosted by the Jesse Owens Runners' Club, approximately 1,200 elite runners from across Alabama will take part in the race to be held on the championship course located on the grounds of the Oakville Indian Mounds Park and Museum.
"The AHSAA cross country state championship is another opportunity for Morgan County and Lawrence County to work together," said Tami Reist, president of the Decatur-Morgan County Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Instead of letting county boundaries prevent an economic opportunity, we are partnering with our neighbor to produce an event which generates revenue for both counties."
The purpose of the AHSAA is to regulate, coordinate and promote the interscholastic athletic programs among its member schools, which include public, private and parochial institutions. Currently, there are 401 senior high members and 287 junior high and middle school members with more than 75,000 students participating in the program.
