INDIANAPOLIS -- The University of North Alabama is ranked sixth in the South Region in the first NCAA Division II women's soccer poll. The top six teams in each region in the final regular-season poll will advance to the NCAA DIvision II Regional Tournaments.
UNA is 11-2 overall and has won 10 straight since getting off to a 1-2 start. Both of UNA's losses came in overtime to teams also ranked in the South Region poll - Barry and Lynn. The Lions made their first appearance in the NCAA Soccer Tournament a year ago and defeated Florida Southern in the opening round before falling to West Florida.
Tournament champions from the GSC and Sunshine State Conference comprise two of the six bids to the South Region Tournament, November 11-14. The remaining at-large slots are awarded to the four highest-ranked teams in the region. The top-rated team is eligible to host the Tournament, providing it placed a bid to host and have adequate facilities and accommodations for teams and fans. The final regular-season poll will be published November 3 and championship selections will take place November 8.
