TANNER, AL (WAFF) - A Limestone County couple is recovering after they were beaten and pistol whipped early Tuesday morning. It took detectives less than a 24 hours to catch the suspects.
26-year-old Joshua Ray Cowan, 19-year-old Mario Taylor and 19-year-old Damien Mitchell are accused of breaking into a home on Nuclear Plant Road just after 1:00 a.m. Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely says the masked men forced their way inside the home and woke Shirley and Charlotte Haney from their bed.
Sheriff Blakely said the two men pistol-whipped the couple and held them at gun point.
"It was awful. It was terrible. He kept telling me he was going to kill me. He said 'You will die before I leave here,'" said Charlotte Haney.
"One guy was on me and the other guy was on Shirley. I could tell you nothing about the guy on Shirley, because this one was right at my head constantly," added Charlotte.
The victims say the men forced them to open a safe and then took several guns and about $1,000 before forcing the couple into a bathroom. Charlotte says the intruders trapped them inside the bathroom and left.
The Limestone County couple says they put their trust in Joshua Cowan. He did odd jobs around the house for the couple.
All three have been charged with robbery, kidnapping and assault. Their bonds total $1,550,000.
At a press conference Wednesday, District Attorney Kristi Valls says she's glad their bonds were set so high, because she doesn't want them to get out.
The suspects will be seen by a Limestone County judge for a preliminary hearing on November 9th.
