ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - Limestone County Sheriff's investigators are searching for two men who broke into an elderly couple's home early Tuesday morning.

Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said two masked men forced their way inside a home on Nuclear Plant Road just after 1:00 a.m. and woke Shirley and Charlotte Haney from their bed.

The daughter of the couple said that her parents are in their 70's and her father has Parkinson disease.

Sheriff Blakely said the two men pistol-whipped the couple and held them at gun point.

They beat and forced the couple into the garage and made Charlotte open a safe while holding Shirley down with a gun.  The thieves stole guns and about $1,000.

The daughter said her father did some quick thinking and asked his wife when the sheriff would be by to check on the office.  The two men then locked the couple inside of a bathroom with a desk pushed against the door and ran away.

The couple was taken to Athens-Limestone Hospital with several bruises to the head where they were treated and released.

Investigators said while the subjects wore masks, they do know one of the men is black.

The sheriff asks that anyone with any information contact the Limestone County Sheriff's Department at (256) 232-0111.  He said there will be a reward.
