FLORENCE -- Chloe Roberts scored two goals and the University of North Alabama defenders recorded their third straight shuout as the Lions picked up a Gulf South Conference soccer win over West Georgia, 3-0.
UNA got an early goal from Jamie Takala, just 2:50 into the game, and was never challenged by the Wolves, who fall to 3-8-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the GSC. Roberts added a goal at the 23:10 mark and then scored her 20th goal of the season just 1:55 into the second half off an assist from Nikki Brown. The assist was Brown's 10th of the season and 26th of her career, leaving her just one shy of the UNA career mark of 27 set by Rhiannon Harrison.
With the win, UNA improves to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the GSC. The Lions have won nine straight and notched their 15th consecutive win at home at the UNA Soccer Field. Roberts' two goals give her 52 for her 36-game career at UNA.
North Alabama goalkeeoer Alex McLay earned her fifth shutout of the season and 15th of her career.
The Lions have not allowed an opposing goal since October 1 against Alabama-Huntsville and have recorded consecutive shutouts against Christian Brothers, Spring Hill and West Georgia.
UNA plays at Lambuth Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Jackson, Tenn.
