WINCHESTER, TN (WAFF) – Authorities from multiple Tennessee agencies made 27 arrests in a drug warrant round-up.

The arrests were made Friday in counties across Southern Middle Tennessee.

Officers and agents led by Winchester police kicked off the first phase of "Operation Rid Meth" back in March, resulting in 51 arrests.

"Our first phase was successful, so we got the clearance from the D.A.'s office for phase two," said Winchester Police Chief Dennis Young.

Now, six months later they're back at it with 48 targets.

Officers nabbed people on various drug charges and a handful of child pornography cases.

Chief Young said meth continues to be a growing problem for the area.

"We beat it down and we've seen a resurgence," he said. "So before it gets out of control, we jointly, all law enforcement together, we're working on trying to get it back under control again."

These operations take a lot of planning and prayer.

"It is a very dangerous situation and the people who are addicted to drugs, especially on methamphetamine, they become, very hostile," Young said.

With arrests warrants in hand, teams of officers hit the streets in Franklin, Lincoln, Coffee and Grundy counties.

Sometimes they were lucky, but other times, they found no one home.

"It's a community problem, and the community needs to get involved and stay involved with law enforcement and join hands with the badge to better serve the public," Young said.

The agencies involved include the Winchester Police Department, the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, the Decherd Police Department, the Tracy City Police Department, the Estill Springs Police Department, the Huntland Police Department, the Coffee County Drug Task Force and the 12th Judicial Drug Task Force.

The agencies are already planning a third phase.
