DEKALB COUNTY, AL -(WAFF) DeKalb County's unemployment rate is down from 13.1% last year to 11.2% this year.
Alabama Senator Lowell Barron said the area has taken a huge hit in the sock industry over recent years. Barron added there is an ongoing effort to bring in more jobs with with new industries, like auto supplier Plasman Corporation.
"We're making great strides in recruiting new industry here. I feel very optimistic about the road that we're on. We're not sitting on our hands," Barron said.
The new plant is expected to open in November, employing as many as 300 people.
