AUBURN - The Auburn football, soccer, volleyball and women's basketball teams and the men's basketball staff participated in Fan Day presented by Golden Flake Snack Foods on Sunday, signing autographs inside the new Auburn Arena for more than two hours.
A record-setting crowd of approximately 8,500 fans attended Fan Day, which began just before 2 p.m. CT. Lines began forming by 9:30 a.m. for the event.
"It was great," said head football coach Gene Chizik. "When we pulled up the arena, there were people everywhere. I've said it before; we've got the greatest fans in the country. Today was a great example of that. I don't know how many were there. I just know my line was long and those people were awesome and they were excited about football. It was a great, great day."
Also in attendance and signing autographs were the Auburn cheerleaders, Tiger Paws, and the Auburn ISP Sports Network's football crew.
The Auburn football team also held its team photo day on Sunday, taking photos inside Jordan-Hare Stadium for an hour and a half prior to Fan Day. The squad also spent Sunday evening in meetings and held a light workout.
The Tigers will return to the practice fields on Monday at 5 p.m. CT.
Auburn opens the 2010 season on Sept. 4 against Arkansas State at 6 p.m.
