AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn football team went through a second consecutive practice in helmets and shorts during the late afternoon hours on Thursday at the Athletic Complex practice fields after practicing under the lights on Wednesday.
"Today was another shorts practice and I still kind of feel like I did last night," Auburn head coach Gene Chizik said. "I thought there was a lot of energy out there. We went in the middle of the afternoon when it was pretty hot out there, but they really pushed through it well."
Divided into two groups for a second straight practice, allowing for more individual attention, the Tiger veterans were on the field for the first half of practice while the newcomers lifted weights during that time before getting onto the practice fields for the second half of practice.
"I thought they had a lot a high level of energy and were focused," Chizik said. I think now we have put together two nice days of practice so we are going to go in shoulder pads and helmets tomorrow and transition into a little more contact. Tomorrow will be a fun day for everyone, especially for some young guys that we are looking to help us. We are seeing some good things out of them too with the split practice plan that we are using and that has really helped us evaluate those guys."
The Tigers return to the practice fields on Friday at 4:30 p.m. CT. All practices are close to the public.
Auburn opens the 2010 season on Sept. 4 against Arkansas State at 6 p.m. CT in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Net.
