MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- The appeal filed by a former UA-Huntsville professor convicted of killing his wife will not go to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Andrew Pakhomov appealed to the Alabama court of appeals, who issued a ruling late Friday.
This isn't Pakhomov's first appeal. He's already had one request for a new trial rejected by a Morgan County judge.
A jury convicted Pakhomov of the murder of his wife Yelena Zakin. Fishermen found her body in the Tennessee River near Decatur in 2006.
Defense attorneys filed this most recent appeal with the Alabama Court of Appeals, requesting the case be sent to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The appeals court denied the request.
Andrew Pakhomov was sentenced to 45 years in prison. His earliest release date is listed as July 29th, 2054. Pakhomov is currently housed at the Kilby Correctional Facility.
