Lake Guntersville FLW Tour Notes

FLW Tour Hooks & Lures

2010 marks the 15th anniversary season for FLW Outdoors and the 2010 FLW Tour is heading into the homestretch with anglers anxiously positioning themselves to qualify for the Forrest Wood Cup…the season was set to get off to an exciting start with the first event on the Red River in Shreveport, La., but unsafe conditions led to the cancellation of that Tour stop…the Tour headed to Table Rock Lake in Branson, Mo. for a second consecutive season which served as the first official event for the 2010 FLW Tour…the schedule then led everyone to Lake Norman in Charlotte and then off to Knoxville to fish Fort Loudoun-Tellico lakes…the event in Knoxville was on the heels of the first National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship which was won by the University of Florida (Matt Wercinski and Jake Gipson)…Hot Springs marked the fourth stop on the Tour and tested the mettle of every angler with the high temperatures…the final stop of the FLW Tour prior to the Forrest Wood Cup will be on Lake Guntersville in Huntsville, Ala…at the conclusion of this event, the field for the Forrest Wood Cup on Lake Lanier near Atlanta will be set.

2010 FLW Tour Recap

Red River, Shreveport, La.

The first stop of the FLW Tour season had to be canceled due to unsafe conditions. This decision was made after much consideration as well as exploration of every possible alternative to ensure the safety of our anglers and FLW Outdoors staff members. This marked the first time an FLW Tour event had been canceled since the 2001 Forrest Wood Cup was canceled due to the 9/11 attacks.

Table Rock Lake, Branson, Mo.

National Guard pro Brent Ehrler set the tone early in the first event of the FLW Tour for 2010 which was presented by Cabela's…weighing in 22-pounds, 2-ounces, Ehrler built nearly a seven pound lead…after four days, Ehrler's domination saw him weigh in 69 pounds, 11 ounces and win the event by more than 13 pounds…veterans Ron Shuffield and Mike Wurm came in second and third, respectively…Damiki pro Bryan Thrift set the tone early for his season by finishing fourth…the remainder of the top-10 were: Greg Pugh, National Guard pro Scott Martin, Mark Rose, Andy Morgan, Adam Wagner and Folgers pro Scott Suggs…for a recap of the FLW Tour stop on Table Rock Lake, visit

Lake Norman, Charlotte, N.C.

Making its fourth consecutive stop on Lake Norman, the FLW Tour event presented by the National Guard saw the local anglers take aim and dominate…Damiki pro Bryan Thrift (Shelby, N.C.) took home his first FLW Tour victory weighing in 58 pounds, 5 ounces, besting Rusty Salewske by nearly nine pounds…local pros Andy Montgomery (Blacksburg, S.C.) and Brian Travis (Conover, N.C.) finished third and fourth, respectively…Rusty Trancgyer made his first FLW Tour top-10 and finished fifth…the remainder of the top-10 were: Andy Morgan, Ishama Monroe, Vic Vatalaro, National Guard pro Clifford Pirch and Keith Combs…for a complete recap and full results of the Lake Norman stop, visit

Fort Loudoun-Tellico lakes, Knoxville, Tenn.

The FLW Tour set its sights on Fort Loudon-Tellico lakes for the first time since 2008…the Tour event, presented by Folgers, saw Glenn Browne of Ocala, Fla., earn his first FLW Tour victory…Browne weighed in 59 pounds, 13 ounces of fish over four days besting Goodwill pro Chad Grigsby by four pounds…Damiki pro Bryan Thrift continued his hot streak by placing third in the event…Chris Baumgardner and local favorite Brandon Coulter finished in fourth and fifth, respectively…the rest of the top-10 were: J.T. Kenney, Chris Martinkovic, Jason Christie, Cabela's pro Clark Wendlandt and Chevy pro Jimmy Houston…for a full recap of the Tour event in Knoxville, visit

Lake Ouachita, Hot Springs, Ark.

The Chevy Open on Lake Ouachita marked the fourth stop on the 2010 FLW Tour…National Guard pro Brent Ehrler showed why he is considered by many the best angler in the sport right now…he came from 10th on day two to take the overall lead on day three and held off a star-studded top five that included local favorite Folgers pro Scott Suggs, Doug Monson, FLW Outdoors' all-time money winner and Castrol pro David Dudley and another strong West Coast angler, Ish Monroe to earn the vicotry…the remaining top 10 featured Jacob Powroznik (sixth), Roy Hawk (seventh), Chevy pro Luke Clausen (eighth), National Guard pro Tim Klinger (ninth) and Terry Bolton (10th)…the high temperatures challenged the anglers to not only catch their limits, but to take extra care of the ones they did bring to the scales… for a complete recap of the tournament, visit

2010 Forrest Wood Cup Preview

Lake Lanier, Atlanta, Ga.

Lake Lanier has seen its struggles over the last few years with low water levels, but the water level has been rising and the lake should be in great condition for the world championship of bass fishing…the advantages of the low water recently allowed for small trees and grass to grow in areas traditionally covered in water and is now in six to 10 feet of water…spotted bass have traditionally been the choice in recent past, but with the additional vegetation, largemouths could become a factor…visit for complete details and a schedule of events.
