HUNTSVILLE, AL – Huntsville Havoc head coach Randy Murphy announced today that forward Mike MacDonald has re-signed with the team for the 2010-11 SPHL season.
"Mike is a key addition for us. He adds a lot of different dimensions from a playing standpoint, like speed, grit, and determination and he is a great teammate and leader," Murphy said. "I look for Mike to continue to improve, as well as make players around him better. He understands the expectations we have as team and holds himself and people around him accountable."
MacDonald played in 56 games for the Havoc last season, scoring 21 goals and recording 26 assists. He added five goals and three assists in the playoffs as the Havoc captured the 2010 SPHL President's Cup.
"I am excited to be returning to Huntsville," MacDonald said. "I really enjoyed my playing there last season. Our obvious goal will be to win another championship and anything else will be a disappointment."
The New Glasgow, Nova Scotia native has played in 176 career games and has scored 34 goals and recorded 47 assists. He played in 109 college games at SUNY-Geneseo and scored 61 goals and recorded 59 assists. This will be his third consecutive season playing for Coach Murphy.
"Coach Murphy allows me to play the type of game that I am best at, and best suited to play," MacDonald said. "He is appreciative of the defensive aspect of the forward position just as much as the offensive aspect and that's what I do best. We seem to be a good fit together."
