HANCEVILLE – Wallace State Community College's baseball team dropped a pair of games to Northwest Shoals at James C. Bailey Stadium Sunday night, completing a three-game sweep for the Patriots.
After a series opening 4-3 victory last Thursday, Northwest Shoals rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth Sunday to claim a 12-11 victory and completed the sweep with a 11-5 win in the finale.
For Wallace State, sophomore Hunter Cross finished a combined 5-for-8 with a two-run homer and five runs scored and Charlie Esskuchen added a two-run shot in the series finale.
Wallace State pounded out 19 hits in Sunday's opening loss. Brian Wheeler was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Tyrone Smith was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, Brad Montgomery finished 3-for-4 with four runs scored and Matt Drake had a double among three hits.
Tyler Roach finished a combined 5-for-9 with a three-run homer and six RBIs for Northwest Shoals (32-18, 14-10 Alabama Community College Conference). Rusty Todd contributed five hits on the day, including a solo homer and five runs scored and Austin Golden was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs in Sunday's opener.
Wallace State (23-20, 11-13 ACCC) hosts Meridian (Miss.) Community College Tuesday in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
The Lions conclude ACCC play at Jeff State beginning Thursday.
