DICKSON, Tenn. – Jacksonville State shot a 304 and is tied for the lead after Thursday's opening round of the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship, played at the par-72, 6049 yard GreyStone Golf Club.
The Gamecocks are tied with Morehead State, while Murray State is third with a 305. Austin Peay (308) is fourth, followed by Eastern Illinois (315), Eastern Kentucky (318), Tennessee Tech (327) and Tennessee State (374).
Jax State got a balanced performance from the team with four golfers in the top 10, as Laura Cutler and Lucia Fernandez finished with an opening round of 3-over 75 and is tied for third place. Luz Armijo and Ornella Arrizon each shot a 77 to tie for 10th place. Ashley Cox finished with a 77 in the opening round.
Individually Austin Peay junior Chelsea Harris has the individual lead after shooting a 1-under round of 71 on Thursday.
This season Jacksonville State has had the best team stroke average (310.5) during the season, bettering Morehead State by less than stroke per round (311.2 for the Eagles) and Murray State (313.2) by just under three strokes. The Gamecocks have won four of the five OVC Championship that they have competed in since joining the Conference
