UNA Receives GSC Golf Awards

MUNSON AND CLARK HEADLINE GSC GOLF AWARDS BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- University of North Alabama senior Brett Munson has been named Gulf South Conference Player of the Year and Stuart Clark has been tabbed GSC Coach of the Year on the heels of the Lions' second straight men's golf conference championship.

Munson, a native of Louisville, Ky., won medalist honors at the GSC Tournament, firing a 12-under-par 204 for the three day event. It was the lowest 54-hole score ever in the GSC Tournament as Munson had rounds of 69, 67 and 68. Munson is raked No. 2 nationally in Division II by GolfStat and earned first-team All-GSC honors for the second straight year.

Clark made league history when the former GSC Individual Medalist was tabbed the GSC Coach of the Year.

Clark became first person to take home both awards, after finishing in first place in the 1996 GSC Tournament.

The UNA alum took over the program from legendary coach Billy Gamble, leading the Lions to their second straight Conference Title and a No. 5 national ranking. Gamble was GSC Coach of the Year in 2009.

UNA's Jake Greer joined Munson on the first-team All-GSC squad. Greer, a sophomore from Bimingham, finished second in the GSC Tournament with a 210 total, six strokes back of Munson. North Alabama's Tyler Ekenberg, a freshman from Apple Valley, Minn., was selected second-team All-GSC.
