Space Camp Hall of Fame Opens Nominations for 2010 Class

Huntsville, AL – For over a quarter of a century, SPACE CAMP has welcomed future astronauts, scientists, engineers, and teachers through its doors.

Three years ago, the SPACE CAMP Hall of Fame was established to honor outstanding members of the SPACE CAMP family, including graduates and former employees who have distinguished themselves in their respective careers or friends who have made considerable contributions of personal time, effort or resources to further the goals of the SPACE CAMP programs.

STS-131 Mission Specialist and Teacher Astronaut Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger, SPACE CAMP'S first alumnus astronaut and a member of the SPACE CAMP Hall of Fame, is currently orbiting the Earth and recently compared her SPACE CAMP experience with her astronaut experiences. Metcalf-Lindenburger stated that the ISS lab is what she would have imagined, but the Shuttle ride was very exciting and like nothing she could have ever imagined when she was 14 at SPACE CAMP.

The nomination period for the 2010 SPACE CAMP Hall of Fame has begun. Nominations are open to all former campers, staff members, and supporters of SPACE CAMP, not just those who have become astronauts. Current members of the Hall of Fame include NASA employees and contractors, teachers and educators, engineers and scientists, members of the military, and community leaders.

Nominations for outstanding candidates can be submitted before May 24, 2010.

The Induction Ceremony will be held on August 20th, 2010 at the United States Space and Rocket Center.

The Space Camp Hall of Fame was founded and inducted its inaugural class in 2007. Since then the hall of fame has grown to 17 inductees. Each year a new class of inductees is welcomed into the Hall of Fame. 2010 will represent the first year that the SCHOF inductees take sole responsibility of the process that selects new inductees into the hall. The Space Camp Hall of Fame is a proud part of the Space Camp family and its members are proud to serve a place as unique and special as the United States Space and Rocket Center and all of its educational camp programs.
