PULASKI, Tenn. -- Blake Stroth hit a leadoff home run and the University of North Alabama never looked back as the Lions downed Martin Methodist 14-7 on the road. The win was a second straight for UNA and ups the Lions' record to 22-19 overall. Martin Methodist falls to 15-21. After Stroth hit a leadoff homer, Kevin Williams also homered to give UNA a 2-0 lead. The Lions exploded for six more runs in the second and four in the third to hold a 12-4 lead after three innings. UNA starter Will Rankin was pulled in the second after allowing three runs on five hits. Kevin Henry allowed four runs on four hits over three and 2/3 innings and left with UNA leading 13-7. UNA got an insurance run in the seventh and Casey Jones shutdown the Red Hawks for three innings. Neill Brown then pitched a scoreless ninth as the Lions held on for the win. Henry (2-0) got the win.
Chase Porch led UNA with four hits, including a home run. Stroth had three hits for UNA, as did Dewayne Gunn. Jordan Wakefield, Jacob Lamar and Ross Parker added two hits each for the Lions.
UNA plays at West Alabama Saturday and Sunday in a key three-game Gulf South Conference series.
