MADISON, AL (WAFF) - Many gathered at Madison's City Hall to pay tribute to a life Monday night.

A life that lives on even after death.

14-year-old Todd Brown's organs were donated after he was shot and killed at Discovery Middle School. Todd Brown's death marked a new beginning for two other people, the recipients of his organs.

The month of April has officially been declared "Donate Life Month."

It was a split second decision for Towanda Moore, the mother of Todd Brown. With the loss of her son, she found the strength to help others.

"When I was approached with this right in the midst of my tragedy, it really became a hard decision. The decision became easier for me and I know now, it was the best decision I ever could have made," said Moore.

Now, the month of April will forever be known as donate life month in honor of Todd Brown. In Alabama, over three thousand people are waiting patiently for an organ.

James Caldwell and James Doggette were one of them. Both men received a kidney from Todd Brown after years of waiting.

"Their son Todd is keeping me alive and I am keeping him alive too. I am forever connected to this family and forever in their debt," said Doggette.

"It was hard for me to really take it because how do you take something from someone who died, especially such a young man. It was kind of heartbreaking, but at the same time it has given me life," added Caldwell.

"They are apart of my family. They are my extended family," Moore said.
