FLORENCE -- There was no good news for the University of North Alabama baseball team Sunday as the Lions dropped the final game of a Gulf South Conference series with Valdosta State, 14-0.
The Lions got just four hits off VSU starter Brett Kennedy as he struck out nine in a complete-game win. UNA's pitchers, meanwhile, allowed 15 hits and also walked four batters.
The Blazers exploded for six runs in the second inning and added three more in the fourth for a 9-0 lead. A single run in the sixth made it 10-0 and a grand slam by Antonio Clark in the seventh made it 14-0. UNA's only hit through the first six innings was an infield single by Jacob Lamar. The Lions left two runners on in the sixth and seventh innings but could never plate a run.
Despite the loss, UNA remains in third place in the GSC East Division at 4-5 in league play. The Lions are 20-19 overall. Valdosta State improved to 31-12 overall and 9-3 in league play
