HANCEVILLE – Calhoun's Michael Schmidt had a solo homer, a two-run double and scored four times as the Warhawks prevailed 20-1 in seven innings over the Wallace State Community College Lions in the opener of their three-game conference series at James C. Bailey Stadium Thursday afternoon.
Calhoun, which scored in all seven frames, put together a six-run fifth inning and a five-run sixth to put the game out of reach.
Wes Hughes had a single, drew three walks and had three RBIs for Calhoun (28-13, 7-9 Alabama Community College Conference), Trey Richard had a pair of hits and scored two runs, Logan Remson finished with three RBIs and Ethan Widener contributed a two-run single.
Jesse Carroll had a pair of singles for Wallace State, Tyrone Smith had a double and an RBI and Dustin Hood had a double and scored a run.
Russell Addison was the winning pitcher for Calhoun, while Carroll suffered the loss for Wallace State (20-15, 8-8).
The series resumes Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
