JACKSON, Tenn. -- University of North Alabama pitchers were roughed up for 25 hits as the Lions dropped a double-header at Lambuth, 10-4 and 6-5. With the losses, UNA is now 15-15 overall.
In the opener UNA fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and was down 6-2 after three innings. The Eagles ripped 11 hits to just five for UNA in the game. Mitch Handley (3-3) took the loss for UNA, allowing eight hits and nine runs over four innings. Drew Clark pitched the final two innings in relief, allowing one run on three hits. Josh Cyr was 2-for-2 in the game with a home run and two runs batted in.
In the nightcap UNA took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth but Lambuth rallied for two runs of its own in the bottom of the frame to tie it. After Lambuth went ahead 6-4 in the fifth, North Alabama rallied for one run in the seventh but couldn't tie the game. Kevin Williams led UNA's offensive efforts, going 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBI, and Jared Mothershed also homered. Trey Mitchell, who pitched a no-hitter in his last outing at West Florida, allowed 13 hits and six runs over five innings in taking the loss. Patrick Hinton pitched one scoreless inning in relief. UNA was out-hit 14-8 in the game.
The Lions and Eagles will meet in the final game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
