Madison science teacher honored

MADISON, AL (WAFF) – A middle school teacher from Madison is one of four finalists in the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Cheryl Adams is a finalist in the Science category.  She teaches at Liberty Middle School.

The four Presidential finalists will be honored Thursday by the State Board of Education meeting in Montgomery.

"These outstanding teachers are a vital human resource for improving science and mathematics education," said State Superintendent of Education Joe Morton.

The awards were enacted by Congress and have been administered by the National Science Foundation since 1983.

Other finalishts include Cathy Bennett of Geneva High School and Sondra Oswalt from the Oxford City School system in the math category along with Science finalist Megan O'Neill from Fairhope High School.
