BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Just one day after leading the Samford men's golf team to a first-place finish at the 2010 Samford Invitational, the Bulldogs' Casey O'Toole was named the Southern Conference's Golfer of the Week Wednesday as the league office released its weekly awards.
O'Toole earned the first, first-place finish of his collegiate career Tuesday at the Samford Invitational. The freshman from Oneonta, Ala., turned in the best two rounds of his young career as he closed out the tournament with back-to-back scores of 65 and 66 en route to a seven-stroke victory.
O'Toole also helped lead Samford to its best finish of the season as the Bulldogs finished tied for first place with the No. 33-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores at the Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Ala.
Other golfers receiving consideration for SoCon Golfer of the Week were Chattanooga's Stephen Jaeger and Wofford's Mark Joye.
The Samford men's golf team will next be in action March 18-21 as the Bulldogs head to Greenville, S.C., to compete in the 2010 Furman Intercollegiate to be held at the Furman Golf Course.
