Narcotics from 1999 were destroyed

ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Etowah County Sheriff's Office investigators destroyed approximately 400 bags of narcotics Tuesday, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

The narcotics were varying amounts of marijuana, crack cocaine and methamphetamine.

"The narcotics were seized as evidence in drug related cases dating back to 1999; prior to the formation of the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit," said I.D. Investigator Misty Otwell.

Every quarter the sheriff's office receives a list from the district attorney of cases that have been cleared from the court system.  A court order to destroy the evidence is signed by Etowah County's four circuit judges.  Evidence is sorted and then verified again before it is destroyed.
