Alabama-Huntsville baseball completes four-game sweep

MONTICELLO, Ark. -- After taking both ends of Saturday's doubleheader against Arkansas-Monticello, the Alabama-Huntsville baseball team finished off the four-game sweep taking both games on Sunday afternoon in Monticello, Ark., via  7-0 and 6-1 scores.

Along with a solid offensive output, the Chargers got a great effort on the hill as junior righty Dustin Bryant (Fyffe) kept Boil Weevil hitters off balance all afternoon.  Bryant went six strong innings allowing a mere four hits and three walks while fanning six.  Junior southpaw Jake Tubbs (Childersburg) worked a perfect inning in the seventh to finish out the game.

Offensively in game one, the Chargers were led by seniors Ryan McCrory (Mobile), Christopher Parkman (Raleigh, Miss.) and Jeremy Dorrence (Decatur), who each had a pair of hits in the win.  McCrory added three RBI in the contest

Game two again saw solid pitching on the mound for the Chargers with sophomore Ryan Griffin (Athens) getting the start and going four innings for the win.  Griffin allowed three hits and a walk along with one earned run while striking out four. Seniors Shawn Herring (Florence) and Jacob Wray (Hartselle) along with junior Dan Lazzaroni (Roswell, Ga.) each worked an inning in relief combining to allow only two hits.

Senior right fielder Bradley Ray (Birmingham) was the only Charger with multiple hits in the nightcap going 2-for-3 at the dish with a run scored.

The Chargers return home to Joe Davis Stadium on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. contest against Montevallo.
