Alabama-Huntsville's Järvinen earns pair of College Hockey America honors

NIAGARA UNIV. N.Y. - After running the longest point-scoring streak of anyone this season to seven games, Alabama-Huntsville hockey freshman Matt Järvinen (Espoo, Finland) has been named College Hockey America's Rookie of the Week as well as being named the league's February nominee for the Hockey Commissioner's Assocation National Rookie of the Month as announced by the league on Monday.

Järvinen opened up the rare 3-game series at Niagara with a goal and assist on Friday night and then tallied an assist in Saturday night's contest to run his streak to seven games.  The 7-game streak is the longest by a Charger since the 2004-05 season when former UAH standout Jared Ross put together an 11-game run.

The Finland native tied for the team lead in scoring in the month of February scoring a pair of goals and adding five assists in six games of action.

The Charger hockey team returns home this weekend to close out the 2009-10 regular season and the final season of College Hockey America play hosting No. 8 Bemidji State.  Friday night's contest features "National Defense Night" including an appearance by the Stanley Cup along with the Chargers wearing special camoflauge 3rd jerseys.  Fans will have the opportunity to have their picture made with the Stanley Cup before and during the 5:35 p.m. game at Huntsville's Von Braun Center.  Saturday's 3:05 p.m. contest features "Senior Day" as well as a special "Charger Family Day" for UAH faculty and Staff.
