DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - Former Decatur Police Officer Faron White is leaving prison early next month.
White was convicted of stealing about $60,000 from the Decatur Police Department in January of 2009 and then trying to fake an abduction from his office.
White said he was using the money to pay bills and intended to pay it back.
A judge sentenced White to 16 months in prison, allowing for time served.
Defense Attorney Jake Watson said White is getting out a little ahead of schedule.
"It's a completely different life for him. He's used to putting people behind bars that committed crimes and never imagined he would be in that position," said Watson.
White was moved from isolation in a Cullman jail to The Oakdale Correctional Complex in central Louisiana.
His release date is March 5th.
