SAMFORD WOMEN'S TENNIS HEADS TO MEMPHIS FOR SATURDAY DOUBLEHEADER

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Samford women's tennis team will hit the road for the first time this season Saturday as the Bulldogs square off against the Memphis Lady Tigers and Austin Peay Lady Govs at the Wellworx Sporting Club. Samford (3-0) is scheduled to face Memphis at 9 a.m. (CST) and Austin Peay at 1 p.m. (CST).
The Bulldogs enter Saturday's matches with an undefeated record after starting the season with a trio of home victories against Charlotte 7-0, Columbus State 6-1 and Jacksonville State 7-0.
In Wednesday's dominant in-state victory against Jacksonville State, Samford won the doubles point and then received singles victories from Taylor Morgan, Andrie Meiring, Madelie Janse van Rensburg, Stephanie Parkison, Lindsey Mallory and Rebecca Kirven. The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents by a total of 20-1 this season.
Memphis (3-6) heads into Saturday's match coming off a near upset of No. 44 Yale on Sunday. The Lady Tigers fell to Yale, 4-3, after taking the doubles point and wins on courts No. 1 and No. 3 in singles play.
Last season, Samford and Memphis squared off in Birmingham, Ala., and the Lady Tigers were able to hold on for a 4-2 victory. The Bulldogs are 1-1 against Memphis under the tutelage of Head Coach David Vest.
Austin Peay (2-0) comes into Saturday's competition with an undefeated record after picking up wins against Belmont 7-0 and Evansville 4-3 to open the season. The Lady Govs, coached by first-year coach Malik Tabet, are led by Vanja Tomic at No. 1 singles and Carolin Weikard at the No. 2 spot.
