Auburn Women's Basketball Falls To Arkansas, 73-58

AUBURN - The Auburn women's basketball team (12-13, 3-9 SEC) fell 73-58 to Arkansas (10-14, 2-9 SEC) Thursday night in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.  Redshirt junior Jordan Greenleaf led the Tigers in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and nine boards.

Auburn gave up 20 turnovers that turned into 22 Arkansas points, while the Tigers leading scorers, junior Alli Smalley (15.2 ppg) and senior KeKe Carrier (13.3 ppg), were held to a total of 10 points.

"I really thought we would be in a better place at the moment," said Auburn head coach Nell Fortner.  "We are struggling right now and we are trying to find ways to get out of the struggles.  We are in a tough place right now but we will keep working and trying to find the answers."

Greenleaf neared her first double-double of the season, coming up one rebound short. She was 7-of-9 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line in her team-leading effort.

"Jordan had a great game tonight," said Fortner.  "She is a player who has a big heart and works hard.  She came in ready to play tonight."

The Tigers were able to take an early, 10-6, lead on the Razorbacks, but turnovers became an issue as Arkansas forced 10 that turned into 11 points in the first half. With 8:26 left to play in the opening period, the Tigers held a one-point lead, their last lead of the game as the Razorbacks would take over from there.

A 3-pointer from Charity Ford took the lead for Arkansas and seized the momentum. The Razorbacks built to a nine-point advantage late in the half, but Auburn managed to bring that deficit down to five with a pair of late jumpers from Greenleaf and Smalley to go into the locker room down, 35-30.

The Razorbacks opened up the second half how they ended the first, jumping off to a quick 11-4 run and forcing six Auburn turnovers in the opening five minutes.  Arkansas opened its lead to 13 by the 15:11 mark, led by Ford with a quick five points.

Freshman Nicolle Thomas tried to ignite a spark in the Auburn offense, scoring eight consecutive Tiger points in less than two minutes.

However, the flurry proved not enough as Arkansas built its lead to 15 by the final horn.

The Tigers shot 42 percent (25-of-59) from the field while connecting on 4-of-16 from behind the arc and 4-of-7 from the line. Auburn won the rebounding battle, pulling down 40 boards to Arkansas' 27.

Charity Ford led a pack of four Razorbacks scoring in double digits, posting 18 points that included shooting 3-of-5 from outside the arc.

C'iera Ricketts recorded a team-high eight rebounds.

Arkansas shot 51 percent (31-of-61) from the field, 6-of-18 from 3-point range and 5-of-7 from the line.
