To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) - A Shoals area teacher charged with a sex crime was fired from her position.

It came several weeks after police found her partially clothed in a car with a teenage student.

Sheffield school officials said they were following Alabama State Law when they placed Amanda Watkins on paid administrative leave, but as of Tuesday night, Watkins is no longer employed by the district.

The school district's attorney said at a meeting on Tuesday night, the school board voted to terminate Amanda Watkins contract.

On December 19, Muscle Shoals Police discovered Watkins in a car parked at a parking lot with a 15-year-old student.

Police said she was putting her clothes back on.

Investigators said the teacher had engaged in sexual acts before officers approached the vehicle.

Watkins was charged with second degree rape and second degree sodomy.

Her attorney sought an injunction against the Sheffield Board of Education to not end her contract, however a judge denied that order.

She has appealed to stop the city from proceeding with her termination through the Alabama Court of Appeals.
