AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn gymnastics team is ranked No. 11 in the latest edition of the GymInfo Collegiate Gymnastics poll, the organization released Sunday.
Auburn is ranked 11th with a 195.262 average after previously holding down the No. 9 spot.
A pair of sophomore's highlight the individual rankings for the Tigers, as Allyson Sandusky is 10th on bars with a 9.862 average.
Classmate Kylie Shields is ranked 15th with a 9.837 average.
"It's great to see them ranked that high, but the individual rankings don't mean that much at this point. We know that Allyson and Kylie are two of the best in the country, but that won't become evident until everyone is in the Regional Qualifying System (RQS),"
In event-by-event rankings, the Tigers rank 18th on vault (48.875), eighth on bars (48.937), ninth on beam (48.726) and 19th on floor with a 48.678.
UCLA leads the team rankings with a 196.362, following by a pair of teams that Auburn has already faced this year in Oklahoma (196.300) and Alabama (196.275). Other SEC teams on Auburn's schedule in the top-10 are Florida at No. 4, as well as No. 7 Arkansas and No. 10 Georgia.
"We started the season off with two home meets where the scores were very consistent against two of the top teams in the nation," said head coach Jeff Thompson. "It will be interesting to see how those scores compare to our road scores this weekend."
Auburn returns to action Friday against No. 16 LSU. The meet begins at
7 p.m. CT from Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge. LSU is coming off a third-place finish at the Lady Luck Invitational in Las Vegas and will enter the meet with a 194.862 average.
