DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - Charges are pending in the latest murder investigation in Northern Alabama.

Decatur Police say 36-year-old Shawn Smith was found last night with multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting happened at his girlfriend's home on 5th Avenue Northwest Tuesday night.

The victims brother said when Shawn's girlfriend returned home, her ex-boyfriend was there with a gun.

"She pulled up and he went to her trying to get the keys to get in to him and he shot at her, and it hit the back door. When he shot at her, that's what my brother heard, and he jumped up and when he walked in, he just shot him, three times in the chest," said Ryan O'Neal Smith.

Police have a person in custody, but no charges have been filed.
