LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said that it was with great pleasure that he was able to honor some of the Departments Employees with awards on December 12th at the Sheriff's Office Christmas Party. He said in all 11 employees received awards for various reasons.
The Sheriff said that Deputy Tim Flannagin received the award for Sworn Employee of the Year, and Office Clerk Kristi Robertson received the award of Civilian Employee of the Year. Mitchell said that both awards were awarded by employee vote. He said that both Flannagin and Robertson are well deserving of the awards. Mitchell said that both exemplify professionalism and have done an outstanding job this past year.
Additional awards were given for outstanding performance to Drug Task Force Agent Dennis Sharp for drug investigations and arrests, Deputy Shannon Holland for a his performance on a call which led to the discovery of a Methamphetamine Lab and School Resource Officers Sgt. Charles Hamby and Deputy Barry Johnson for the number of drug investigations they handled within the schools this past year.
Mitchell said that Capt. Tim McWhorter, Sgt. Randall Parker, Drug Task Force Director Amard Martin, Deputy Ashley Bowling and Dispatcher Lindy Garrett all received the Meritorious Service Award for years of dedicated service to the Sheriff's Office. Mitchell said that the award is given to employees who have at least ten years of service and have demonstrated exceptional performance and professionalism while carrying out their job duties.
Sheriff Mitchell said that while the employees who received awards are all well deserving, he said that there are many others in his department which have contributed to making 2009 a successful year for the Sheriff's Office. He said without his staff the department would not have been able to serve the citizens of Lawrence County at the level it has this year. Mitchell said that he appreciates his staff and looks forward to another successful year in 2010.
