AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn safety Daren Bates has been named to the SEC Coaches' All-Freshman Team, the league office announced Thursday.
Bates started all 12 games for Auburn during the regular season, finishing fourth on the team with 63 total tackles (40 solo, 23 assists). He had 2.5 tackles for 19 yards in losses, two pass break-ups, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Bates had at least seven tackles in five games this season, including a career high nine during Auburn's 33-20 victory over Ole Miss Oct. 31.
It marks the fourth straight year that an Auburn defensive back has been named to the SEC All-Freshman team. Neiko Thorpe was recognized last season, Zac Etheridge in 2007 and Jerraud Powers in 2006.
