Police: Body found believed to be missing woman

Posted: Updated:

SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF) - Scottsboro police officials said Thursday morning that a female body found in northern Marshall County is believed to be the remains of a Jackson County woman missing since last weekend.

Investigators said the body found near Preston Cemetery Road is believed to be Lisa Harper, 46, of Scottsboro. Harper was reported missing to Scottsboro police by family members on Sunday evening. Harper was last seen Saturday evening near the Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro.

Search efforts began Monday in the area she was last seen. Investigators said the search expanded south into Marshall County, where the body was found.

Scottsboro police officials said they have been assisted in the investigation by the Jackson County Sheriffs Department, Marshall County Sheriffs Department, the US Marshals Service, the Scottsboro-Jackson Rescue Squad, HEMSI Dog Rescue, and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

The body was taken to Huntsville Forensic Lab for an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death, investigators said.

Haper's family tells WAFF 48 News they are preparing for the worst.  They're heartbroken but hopeful.

Harper has two older siblings, two children, and 5 grandchildren. She's a certified nurse assistant and recently got engaged to her boyfriend during the week of Thanksgiving.

Harper is a breast cancer survivor. Her family says she was diagnosed in 2007, had her left breast removed, but won her fight and was in remission.

The Harper family can't put into words what they've been through the past few days.

Investigators said the probe into the death of Lisa Harper is continuing. No suspects have been named or other information given.

Police will not say if they believe foul play was involved in this case. The investigation into her death is ongoing.

The family is asking for donations. If you would like to help you can make a donation at the Scottsboro Funeral Home in Lisa Harper's name.
